are d16a6 and d16a1 same internals?
I was wondering if a d16a1's internals are the same as a d16a6. i know that the a1 is dohc but was woundering if i could get performance rods, pistons for it....
yes, the rods are the same - the pistons in the A1 have a dome top due to the larger combustion chamber in the head instead of a dished top like the A6 - finding aftermarket pistons for the A1 is not going to be easy - A1 pistons are the same as DOHC ZC pistons:

Like jlicrx said, the rods are interchangeable with the rest of the d16 family. The pistons it just really depends on what you want to do with them, if you want lower compression most aftermarket pistons for the rest of the d16 family that provide "average" compression ratios will end up giving a fairly low CR. On the other hand if you want higher compression than the selection gets quite low.
If you're shopping around for pistons just do what I did for my ZC, get the specs on the pistons and plug it into zeals compression calculator. Give you a good baseline to compare to.

okay, thanks. has anyone ever swaped on into a ef? ive heard that it wont go in(the brackets arnt the same) and does anyone make cams for them?
Honestly the cheapest and most cost effective way to go about it is to swap the Rods/pistons from the a1 into the a6 and call it a day. (after a bit a tuning that is) Like dark teg said the a1 fits wonderfully into the 1st gen but requires a custom engine mount to get it into the 2nd gen. Not to even mention the fact if its a 86-87 a1 the vacuum advanced distributor will require attention.
