From: Maryland. Dont come lookin
did a headgasket, tb and water pump on my ls motor
i had the swap in a previous car that was wrecked. car ran fine had about 120k on the clock. then it was pulled and i did the work listed above and now i put it into my new car.
at first start up the car ran normal after acouple min. then car started to idle wierd and pour out white smoke. i turned the car off and then went over everything and started up again the car wouldnt run right untill i got on the gas and held it at 2,000 rpm then i shut it off after about 3 min.
i noticed in between cyl. 4 n 3 on the block there was oil running down the motor coming from in between head n block.
so i pulled the plugs from 4 n 3 and theres oil on the plugs
oil level was low but wasnt milky or dirty, and antifreeze level was steady
my thoughts
head gasket on wrong upside down or whatever
head bolts not tight enough
headgasket didnt seal properly
and ideas or help
thanks alot
UPDATE!!!!!!!! 2/12/09
and i did use a torq wrench but should i have done a lil tighter? Strected bolts? i kno arp studs you do a lil tighter if you have to re use them but headbolts? i had 2 buddys say they had this problem on each corner of the head there was a lil leak and the went like 2 ft lbs more n it sealed up
also if the headgasket is on wrong would the cause the plugs to have oil on them? and the car to smoke? and oil to come out of cyl 4 n 3?
the lastest update is a pulled the valve cover and the header off. i cranked over motor watching valve, cam movement watching everything turn over and it looks good. like i said theres oil in ports 4 n 3.
some1 told me my **** could be cracked or warped from over heating. hows that when it never got to temp?
also could this have anything to do with the rings? the couldnt have just went up? they were fine before.
UPDATE!!!!!! 2/13/09
ok so the headgasket was on wrongside up. so i bought a new one and put it on last night re did timing valves etc. puyt everything back together car started up and ran decent but still smoked. i shut it off after about 2 min n then called it a nite this morning i checked the plugs. the timing etc. everything was good. so i started it again once again it ran clean at first then started to smoke. car is idling high and i have no idea why. well i let it run for a lil and car steady smoked. i turned it off. checked oil and antifreeze both good. i pulled the header off and theres oil in each exhaust port and on header? now from the head gasket problem before im sure there was oil where there shouldnt be? like on a lil on top of pistons. or passages correct?
so is this just the oil burning off? or whats going on now.
headgasket should have sealed good. theres nothing on any corners or running down motor
then i checked the plugs and a lil oil on each plug?
im goin to do a comp. check now
UPDATE!!!
comp. 185 all the way across.
ANY IDEAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????
