Icon2 Who's familiar with the Maganflow exhaust system for the V6 6th Gen?

I'm thinking about buying the system for my 1999 Accord Coupe V6, 150K miles.

It's with the mechanic, I'm getting the timing belt changed along with the tensioners, all the oil seals on the engine (to get rid of an oil leak and upgrade to Royal Purple from conventional), one O2 sensor that's not working, as well as all spark plugs and wires.

After this, I'll have more peace of mind with the car's well-being, since I am not the original owner.

I figured I would buy that Magnaflow exhaust system. I already have an Injen short ram. Anyone have any experience with it or any other system that you really found great?

I've found that just removing the stock mufflers makes for a delicious sound, although it may seem ghetto to some. You can Youtube some videos of it.

I use the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers on all of mine and my friends cars (including a '91 accord, '99 grand prix, '99 dakota- they all sounded great). They provide good flow, and great sound (they dont have the tin can rattle that most cheap mufflers have), and they can be purchased at many Auto parts stores like Autozone, and Advance Auto Parts for about $40 each. They do give your car a great low rumble, but their not sooo loud to the point where an interstate drive is too uncomfortable- their just right!

Never tried the Magnaflow setup, but I would assume the muffler construction would be quite similar to the Dynomax mufflers (of course the Magnaflow would be a direct fit though).

What is it with you guys? I'm not getting it for the sound, even though it sounds pretty great. I'm getting it for the extra performance.

There will be a negligible difference in performance, if any. It may even decrease performance. Better flowing exhaust on a naturally aspirated Honda does nothing but deceive your 'butt dyno' unless you have a way to tune the car.

In your case, I believe Unichip is one of, if not your only option for tuning. Just as an example, I made 174whp/166wtq with my 4-banger 6th gen, before ever removing the STOCK EXHAUST. When I finally replaced it, the car did make 12whp more, but that was in combination with all the other mods it took to get those numbers, and ONLY after I re-tuned.

I think the differences will be significant. The short ram was only supposed to add what? 7 HP at most, maybe? I felt the differences significantly.

With the exhaust system, it'll definitely at least torque much more. That's one of the biggest differences I noticed when I installed the short ram.

The system sounds great, looks great, and I've heard it performs awesome, as well. I just wanted some sort of feedback from those that have installed various systems. :D

Yeah, what do I know.... You're probably right.

It sounds nice, as most exhausts do on the J30, but your car will be negligibly faster if at all. Mark my words. I'd just find the best trade-off between looks and price if I were in your shoes.

Don't you think there will be a bigger difference in HP and torque gains since I have the V6?

I've always "understood" that the bigger the engine, the bigger a difference bolt on like air intakes, headers, and exhausts will make... Am I correct on that one?

What kind of exhaust did you install on yours? I appreciate your input, man.

It greatly depends on the motor. It's not as simple as bigger engine = bigger gains. Certain motors respond better to certain mods. Take for example the F22B1/2. ~150/140 stock but toss in a bisi cam and some tuning and you can gain a significant amount (20hp +). And as he stated, butt dyno's are not necessarily correct.

honda has tuned their cars to work well with the specific equipment that is attached. Especially with there economy cars, they are tuned for ECONOMY not performance. By adding/changing to what honda as designed for, you upset the way the car is supposed to operate. So without a combination of mods and tuning, Not just the I/H/E popular combo, you aren't really going to see any gains. You can't really trust what the websites quote you, or even the magazines because their job is to sell you the product.

without tuning, or other mods, which would require tuning, the performance gains would be negiligible, and mostly in your mind.
