Buddy selling me his civic
I have a buddy of mine from work selling an '01 Civic LX coupe(automatic).
Stock, 96k miles, black leather interior, never been in an accident, not abused...so on.
He just told me he'll give it up for $4k...thinking of asking him to leave it at $3,500
What you guys think?

sounds like a very good deal. even at 4,000. but theres proof of 2001-2005 civics (AUTOMATICS) TO COME WITH TRANNY ISSUES. GOOGLE IT.
i personally own a 2002 civic lx... with 200,000 miles. picked it up for 2,500 off an old guy. but mines is stick. all im saying is if you buy the car put sum money to the side because the trannys gunna go. (i found a website where people are trying to make a poll so honda would re-emburs them sum cash) peace man

You'll want to change the timing belt and water pump ASAP if it hasn't been done yet, so make sure to budget for that.
'01s also typically come with bad front struts and broken front lower control arm bushings.

i dont know how the build quality is on the auto compared to the standard, but i have a standard with 130xxx miles still on the orig clutch. other than regular maintenance, never had any need to do anything to it
I just bought a 01 Civic LX sedan with 145,000 mi. The owner had already replaced the tranny at 75,000 so I thought I had a good deal with a young tranny. Before you buy have the tranny, and the front end checked out completely. I am regreting my purchase. I did not pick up on the problems after a couple of looks, and test drives, but after using it for a couple of weeks I have had it up on jack stands for two weeks trying to sort out the problems. I have both Tranny and front suspension problems. I checked out this web site too late don't make the same mistake I made http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/A...01/index.shtml
I have owned 4 Honda's 1985 Prelude, 1997 civic, and 2 1997 Accords all went over 200k. I bought this one only because the one 97 accord with over 250k was totaled over the winter
