Default Options for usdm B16 block....

ok, so what can I bore the B16 block out to, or should I even do that? Should I just use a GSR crank? I want an all motor app, and I want it to be strong as hell... with a high CR.

stock bore is 81mm if I'm correct, so what is the possibility there?

also, any other advice is appreciated.

I'll be using a type-R head, and haven't fully decided on internals... maybe keep all the stock R stuff, but use CTR pistons? if I bore it I'll go aftermarket of course, but there are too many ways of doing this...

suggestions? advice? setups?

thanks.

Send it to golden eagle and get them to sleeve it and bore it to 84.5mm. It'll be a 1.8 liter then.

alright.. that's what I was thinking.. I just didn't know what would be a better route. The resleeve or the bigger crank.

so... golden eagle resleeve, mugen head gasket, CTR pistons, ITR head P&P w/3 angle valve job.. anything to add to that setup? or change? opinons?

thanks.

With an 84.5 mm bore you're gonna need a custom head gasket. I'd give cometic a call and get them to make one with 84.5mm holes and have it be the stock gasket thickness.

I'm not sure. You may want to enlarge your combustion chamber though and get it to match since it'll be smaller than the bore of the block now.

With an 84.5 mm bore you're gonna need a custom pistons, I do not think CTR pistons are available in that bore.... you need some Endyn rollerwave / Weisco high compression pistons.

if you are gonna rock an ITR head, keep the itr head stock and focus your time, tuning and money on other things... fuel/ecu/bottom end/exhaust/ dynotuning, etc.
the ITR top end is very well tuned and can handle up to what, 9000 rpm? and some setups have made great power up to 9000 rpm with ITR cams.
if you stick with them that saves you a LOT of cash as opposed to aftermarket cams and a necessary valvetrain upgrade if they are big cams... Spec B, Stage 3, etc.

good luck, should be a good project

go for the OEM stroker kit. b17 crank and rods with CTR pistons! Great r/s ratio, improved tq, b16 revability. And add a 2 layer headgasket and your set. Pick cam profile to suite your preferneces.

damn... now I'm torn. Do I resleeve or stroke it? This is the question I started with...

ok, it's always gonna be all motor.. always N/A. I want a very high revving motor with great relibility.. so I should probably go with the bigger crank, and CTR/ITR internals, right?

I just want to make sure it's gonna handle the RPMs I'm looking for.

thanks again guys.. any other feedback appreciated.

Sleeving is great IMO, but there is just something special about a 1.7 b16. Very high revving(not that a resleeved b16 is not), and OEM internals. ADD a CTR head to the mix and your set!

ok, now another question....

pistons... the ones Spoon sells.. are they just regular ITR pistons in Spoon packaging? does the "balanced by spoon" have any effect, or is it BS?

just BS...All OEM R pistons are balanced from the factory. When i took my USDM ITR pistons to the machine shop they said they couldn't get them anymore balanced.

And don't get ITR pistons for a b16 block, they will drop your compression. Go CTR or P30, those are the only upgrade.
