Default Got my GSR head in today ( BIG problems)

Well my GSR Head came in today so now i can start my LS vtec journey right?? NOPE!! I got the head in its in really good shape really clean and all that jazz but guess what NO cam caps... i contacted the seller and they said " Oh yeah they were not included" so **** i should have asked.. anyways i was able to find some used GSR cam caps. I've read about problems with clearences with using cam caps from different heads but they are GSRs and this is a GSR head what do you guys think. You think it will be okay?? I would hate to be out of 500 dollars

Get new ones. Measure clearances compared to cams being used.

would be best to get new ones like stated above. Just get OEM ones, not after market or anything.

NO!!!!!! THEY ARE ALWAYS INCLUDED!!!!! GET YOU MONEY BACK OR HAVE HIM SHIP THEM!!!!

Honda / Acura will not sell them separately from the head as when the head is manufactured they’re line bored for a perfect match. The guy who sold you the head is a dumb a$$!

That's exactly what I was gonna say. You can take what you've got and have a machine shop do a line bore on them but it's pricey. Plus, unless they refill with metal and then line bore, you'll end up with an even bigger opening which is not a good thing if it exceeds the clearance limits.

Thats bad news guys, I tryed talking to the guy i bought the head from on ebay but to be honest there isnt much i can say.. the cam caps where in the picture of the head but the ad never said anything about them being there, and he also had a thing that said picture might not be actual item.. i assume that if i were to get my hands on some other cam caps i would be breaking cam shafts or what might happen there? I guess this GSR is just gonna turn into a $500 ash tray..

Did the ad say the caps were not included? I think it's reasonable to think the caps would be included, no matter what the disclaimer says. It's not right that you didn't get caps. If you get the wrong caps installed at this point then you are likely headed for a ruined cylinder head.

hmm so what if I have a bare head (no cam caps) and swapping all my internals over to another head but having it completely rebuilt?

I dont think that will work simply for the fact that the Head and the cam caps are machined to be perfectly matched..

Head without Cam Caps is like a block without Main Caps. Useless, pretty much a paperweight. At least with a block you could line bore and go OS Bearings.

I don't recommend it, but I was in a somewhat situation like yours and I used other b16 cam caps on my b16 head. I had no problems.

I've read that sometimes you can get lucky and diffrent cam caps will work out but im not willing to take that chance.. even though i guess its all void either way whats the diffrence between having a scorn cup holder and a new cup holder lol

open a dispute through paypal (if you used it) it should freeze his paypal account. You should state that a complete honda cylinder head includes cam caps. If he didnt SPECIFICALLY say that it didn't include them in the auction then it should be considered fraud.

ok, i understand why you guys are saying what youre saying. but my question is, when you buy aftermarket cams, they don't come with caps... wtf? how are they supposed to be sized with that exact cam shaft?

the journals r machined from the factory, wit the caps torque down, for that specific head, if off, they could cause scarring , which will lead to failure... call up ur local machine shop, and see if they can help u out... personally, i would throw that head threw the sellers car window...

Report him on ebay and on paypal. The picture has the cam caps - you should get cam caps.
Not the actual item in the pic just means that the picture is generic, but it auction still should include everything in that picture.
That's like buying an XBOX 360 and the generic picture shows controllers, but the one you get from the seller is stripped with no case, not controller, no hard drive... etc.

Don't listen to anybody but str8boost, any half-assed engine builder knows that line boring can almost always be done without having any problems of going to big. These cases are not very common. I am not going to get into how many motors I have rebuilt but anything other than stock, I always get the camshaft bore/s done and the mains line bored as well. The usually cost around $100 each around me. It is good to have the peace of mind that your bearings/cams are not going to wear unevenly.
