Default Please help with your general knowledge

Well I am hoping that I am in the right section at the moment.I am new here and hardly know anything about imports in general. In the past I have mainly had domestic cars and this is why im not familiar with this information.I just recently bought a 93 del sol with 173k on mileage it runs great and looks better.I personaly bought this car for me and my wife just to get around in for about a 6 month period then we would modify it and have some fun.Now that we have it I tend to just like to hit the gas and play around a little. In doing this I noticed the thermostat go up all the way and so now I know as long as I keep my foot out of it then it will be fine. This comes to my main point now I apologize for the lengthy explanation.I would like to start modifying early and I am wondering if this is just because im young and dumb.I have 3,500 in the bank at the moment and am wanting to go with an h22 swap however I have an auto and would like it to be swapped over to a 5 speed. The shop down the street is asking for 5 grand for the swap so can you please give me your personal opinion.Thank you

I'm not that familiar with Del Sols but I'm pretty sure that an H22 swap is pretty involved especially if you're switching from auto to manual. Have you thought about going with something like a B16?
Personally, I would not pay anybody 5g to swap an engine. I'd do it myself even if they were only asking 1.

Yes and I totally agree with you. That seems a bit overpriced I just don't really have the general knowledge to do it and also I have heard that this is a pretty odd swap and a bit hard. I did actually try to see how much a b16 or a b18c would cost to be swapped in.It would be roughly a grand less. When I heard that I was thinking why not pay the extra grand because it will make a bit more power.

I'm sure if you've been working on cars, this should be a piece of cake.

Fix your overheating issue first to keep the car running safely. If it only does it when you stomp the gas maybe check make sure fan is coming on. Or maybe thermostat is bad.

Get car running first and then start getting everything ready for your swap.
If you are wanting H22 then I suggest looking into H2B so that you can utilize the Shift rod style linkage and better axle positions instead of a straight H22 swap with bad axle positions.

Read up some more and for 5 grand you could have a badass built H22 with enough money left over to buy all the tools needed to perform the swap yourself.

Ya most definitely gonna fix that first. One of the fans has been running but the other does appear 2. I actually just talked to a good friend and think I have had a change of heart. He said go with the b16 because the tranny swap will be alot cheaper. Can anyone tell me how much different it will be power wise or build wise.I would love to build on my own but honestly I dont have the time or knowledge.

The H22 swap is a little involved. If he's never done this before, it may be a bit much.

A B series swap would be cheaper...and you'd get to keep your AC/PS.

How buildable is the b16 without taking it fully apart

yeah but who wants AC/PS haha yes it is definately an involved swap (h22)

Its just the torqueless B16 will get old after a while if you are truly looking for performance.

For a little street screamer they are fun.

Check out my build only for the fact of a poormans R build. That was a fun motor.

You can keep A/C and P/S with an H-series swap, its just not a bolt on affair like it is with a B-series.

I would just go for more displacement. Start at 1.8L. The B16s are generally a cheap, yet slow swap.

I've swapped a B16 into 2 hatches and I now own an EM1. In the hatches, it was acceptable. In the coupe..it's not really all that impressive.

I've also owned a GSR which, honestly, had a boring powerband....but it did move pretty well.
