Accord, High Idle Problem
92 Accord LX, idles @ 2000 rpm at start-up, engine will lower itself to 1500 after a minute. If I drive, it won't go below 3000 rpm, and after an extended drive through the city it goes up to 3500 rpm (which is incredibly annoying). As much as I enjoy going uphill in third gear without using the accelerator, I would like to fix this as soon as possible.
here's what I've already tried:
* adjusting the Idle Speed.
* looked for vacuum leaks.
* cleaned the throttle body.
* cleaned the IACV and the FITV.
* reset the ECU.
When I adjusted the Idle Speed, it wouldn't let me take it anywhere lower than 1500 rpm, which I thought was pretty strange. That seems to be the lowest point it wishes to fall to.
As for the vacuum leaks, I suppose there might be one that I didn't find / can't see.
I've read other threads on this forum trying to look for an answer, and I seem to be at a dead end - or at least a point where I'm looking for some outside input. Help!

Or maybe I should replace the FITV altogether, I checked it a minute ago and couldn't feel any airflow (and yes, I turned the ring when I cleaned it).

i got a 95 accord vtec and i had an idle surge. my rpm was goin up and down by it self while i was at a light. i replaced the iac, that didnt fix it. i adjusted my fitv and cleaned my throttle body, that also didnt work! i check the hoses for holes and they were good. so i took some carb cleaner and while the car is runnin, i spray in certain areas where air can get in from a vaccum leak, i sprayed between the head and the intake manifold and bam!!!! i found it! when u spray in an area where there is an vaccum leak, the rpm will drop then go back up. so i replaced the intake manifold gasket and no more problems! the reason i changed it is because i got my head machined and the guy that replaced the gasket, he put the wrong one on there! so air was gettin in between the gasket

Ok, I think it might be leak in the gasket between the Throttle Body and the Intake Plenum, the small square one immediately after the throttle flap. How could that have happened I wonder?
The only recent work I've had done was the whole Timing Belt jazz.
As far as I know, the IP and the TB haven't been messed with since the car was built! I've got 276K miles and counting. A friend sent me this link:

It seems to be a good diagnosing guide to a high idle problem. Most of it I've tried, a few things I haven't.

FIXED IT.
My feelings won't be hurt if anyone wants to laugh at me for this, but the throttle cable was too tight, therefor holding the throttle plate open just a smidge.
I was rolling this problem around in my head for the past week and a half, and one thing kept creeping into my thoughts: "well, basically it's just getting too much air, so I should look for where it's primarily getting it and see if anything is up". I've never touched the cable, and I have no idea why it would have been too tight, but there it is.
After all of that cleaning and checking, turned out to be something small and actually kind of obvious. oh well. lesson to be learned: nothing is a dumb idea, check it out anyway.
