Getting D15B3/4 to run without harness (it's carbed)
I am interested in buying a Honda D15B from a shop because it is small and carbureted, it is for engine dyno research. We want something that doesn't need an engine harness / computer to run. The mechanic said the engine was carbureted from the factory which makes me think D15B3 or 4.
I have little experience with carbureted engines and I would think they only need the harness to run *better* but not to *run*.
So, is this possible? Idealy we would like to hook up fuel, battery, coolant and crank it over.
Thanks
Jon

you need to find out exactly what the engine is - some people look at a Honda D15B1 or D15B2 and think it is carbed, when actually it just has a downdraft throttle body fuel injection - if it is actually a 84-87 Honda carbed engine, then it would be simple to hook up - power to the starter, power to the coil (the 84-87 carbed engines had an external coil), fuel to the pump and coolant lines - you wouldn't need the harness or any of the sensors hooked up - there is also a Japanese D15B Honda engine with dual carbs which uses the ECU - i don't think you want that
ok its a guy at an engine shop so I hope he knows what he is talking about, we will look before buying anyway.
So I should be ok if it is the single carb model?

Yes, and just because he works at a shop means absolutely nothing. Also people get mistaken/try to screw people over all the time. Seeing as you admit that you don't know much he might be trying to pull a fast one over on you as well. There is a huge difference between Mechanics and Parts Changers.
