Icon2 89 and 90 Si clusters

I inherited a canadian 1991 Civic Si. the gauge cluster didnt work (very well) when i got it.

highbeam indicator stayed on, no illumination, no tach, missing CEL bulb. speedo worked, turn signals worked, hazards worked.

so i started to dig in.

i came to realize the car has an 89 dash harness in it. the ecu is a 91.

here is the problem:

i have three yellow/red wires. every single diagram i can find only mentions 2 yel/red wires. VSS and oil pressure.

does anyone know how i can identify which yel/red wire is which. IE, which one puts out "x" volts.

i figure i could unplug the oil pressure connector from the block and that should throw voltage to one of the yel/reds.

how about the VSS? jack up the car and put it in gear? (danger danger! lol)

and for the last wire, what the hell could it be? (perhaps the CEL?)

does anyone have a reference for how many volts each wire would put out? one seems to be a ground, one puts out 0.4v and one puts out 5v.

after searching here and google for 2 nights ive decided to ask the biggest and best 88-91 community around.

thanks for helping, brothers.

is it the dash harness or just the cluster's harness?
i have put an 89 cluster in my 90... it is not too difficult to do.
if you need direction, i can help you, but is it just the cluster's harness?

nice, ur canadian as well....

did you have three yel/red wires? if so how did you determine which goes where?

im not getting a VSS code, so i think i got that correct.

the oil light isnt working tho. not sure why....i tested it with a 12v source and it illuminates, so its functioning.

i have two yel/red wires left (excluding VSS).

the manuals say there should only be one, the oil pressure sensor.

one wire puts out .45v. is that the oil pressure sensor?

it turns out the car is an 88-89; long story short i need to sell it before i get pulled over in it. lol.

but i want it to work right when i sell it. let me know Canadian EF.

the wire original wire i had plumbed into the oil pressure light was correct.

the crazy thing is, the extra yel/red wire i had was for the seatbelt reminder! (i found this out by swapping it into the oil pressure slot and the friggin oil pressure light flashed with the warning beep from the cluster!! lol)

so i swapped the other yel/red (oil pressure) into the 90-91 oil pressure location, put the seatbelt warning into the 90-91 seatbelt warning location, and BAM! they both worked.

i guess they need each other to work correctly.

i am so happy. lol
