Default Why does my changer skip so much?

I have a 98 honda civic EX with a factory 6 disc changer, and it skips sometimes when going over tiny bumps on the interstate, other times it takes HUGE bumps...
what gives? does my changer just suck *** ?

any info is appreciated..

thanks,
mike

maybe the anti-skip dampers are worn or something.. does it skip more than it used to? or its always done this? I've had my Alpine changer for about 5 years (CHA-S1214) and it doesn't skip unless I go over a big *** bump..///Alpine I've actually been WAITING for it to break so I can get the new CHA-S634 (6 disc w/ Mp3 decoding) but it hasn't broken yet so I'm not justifying replacing it..

you could try to have it cleaned or serviced, meaning having cd mechanisms re-aligned. other than that replacement is also an option. if you are interested i have an alpine cd changer with interface piece that plugs into the factory source unit so you can use that to control the changer. i will sell the package for $150 shipped. sorry i didnt mention but it is an alpine.

The laser is probably out of alignment due to bumps in the road and potholes and the like. If it's out of warranty, just to by a new one but not from the dealer... it would be cheaper that than sending it out to United Radio or some place that repairs OEM stuff.

Go buy an Alpine CHMS630 CD changer and a HONALPDMXV1 (Blitz) adaptor cable if you want to keep your factory deck from a reputable chain store that offers extended warranties and yearly checkups. They are worth it for a CD changer. If you go to the Honda part department and buy one from there, you'll be paying more and your stuck with a 1 year warranty or so because it wasn't installed at the time of new vehicle purchase.
