Default Tranny issues

Im helping one of my buddies out with his car its a 98 accord 5 speed tranny 4cyl.Gears 1,3,5 all go in smoothly no issues at all.2,4,R are all really really stiff.It goes into gear just its hard to get it to go in.Anybody ever had this issue or any ideas what may cause it?

Is this condition present not only while running but also with the engine off as well? It could make a difference which way we take this depending on the answer.

yep all the time running or not. I know it needs tranny fluid but shouldnt make a difference if its not underload

It may well be associated with either the shifter assembly itself or the cables used to operate the transmission.
If it were clutch or trans syncro issues it would have gotten easier with the engine off. There still could be an issue with the shift forks, but you need to determine whats what.
If you can tempoarily disconnect the shifter control cables from the tranny (and the condition still exist) you'll know the problem lyes there.
If not, it's in the transmission.
