I got the check engine light yesterday evening and the engine was sputtering for two day's . I mean the rpm was going below 500 if in neutral . The car has a automatic trans.

I searched the forums but couldnt find anything related this issue .
Can some one give me a suggestion as to buy a code reader or take it to a Mechanic and Pay big bucks as the car has 108K miles on it .
