I was always under the impression that all Hondas had factory vin stickers on their bumpers etc. But a seemingly legitimate civic I looked at today didn't have one on the rear bumper. It is a 96 hatch. Any one know for sure if Honda didn't do this to all vehicles?

 

It should be right at the top edge when you pop the hatch.

It could be an aftermarket bumper.

It could be a factory replacement bumper.

It could have been repainted and had the sticker removed before paint.

 

yea they did but everything nofx listed is why it doesnt,
if you want them, im sure honda sells them for a couple bucks each, at least the one in tacoma does.

 

No, I'm not concerned with the sticker. I just want to know if it has been in a rear accident before. I know where it is on my 99 hatch. I just thought maybe they didn't do it on the older models (96).

 

I know my '98 and Eran's '97 (and IIRC, my '97 too) all had stickers. My rear bumper was cracked and I replaced it, so the VIN on that bumper doesn't match the rest.

A replaced bumper doesn't mean there was any sort of horrible damage done to the car. It's easy to crack or puncture and not to other damage.

Check the vehicle history if you're really interested in the car.

 

i think its 96+ hondas that have the sticker since i never see them on older hondas

 

Well the dad of the owner of the car apparently works at Honda and told her that 96's didn't have the vin stickers on the bumpers. I didn't think this was true. But I wanted to see if anyone knew for sure.

 

Perhaps someone with a '96 could answer that for you. Maybe make a thread, "Question for '96 owners" or look in a thread for Midori Civics or something since the stock ones will all be '96s.
