Im going to buy an ECU from some guy and he tells me that its of a K20A the Type R motor and i was wondering how can i tell if this is a K20A ECU? Thanks
I think there should be a bar code on the side with some numbers and letters underneath it and it should show a few numbers - "PRC" - a few more numbers or something like that I believe.
For example: 32504-PRC-A07

car will not run as fast as a k-pro tuned engine because the type-r is tuned for a type-r...
But you are right Dave.. only a few select bad asses get to say the have a JDM Type-R ecu ROFL

haha lol
its so over done... like I know I would say I had a Type-R EG... well thats because I had a B18C in it but I didn't go saying crazy with it to the point some ppl do lol...

150!!!!!!!!! are you serious wow... you just got owned!!!!!
I can't believe you would waste money on a stock ecu that won't properly work for your car!!!

on what engine do you plan on putting it on???? A2, A3???? Won't run good... but I am sure you don't care cause you got a Type-R ecu and that is all that matters!!!
Thats actually a pretty fair price for a Type R ecu....
And Just a lil FYI...since its a K-swapped EG this is the cheapest way to get the car running without k-pro since JDM ECU's don't have an immobilizer.
Bump for workin with what ya got bro...

Finally someone that knows what they are talking about..
don't eg's have an immobilizer in the car itself like the rsx/ep3's??
Eg's have a steering column lock...... Nothing a crow bar or hammer can't take care of.... And even if eg's did have an immobilizer in the same form as an rsx it would be useless since a kswapped eg uses a kseries ecu...
The only bseries cars with immobilizers are 00-01 type r's... Just slap a p28 in there and drive off... An ls p75 will work if u just need to drive the car.... Protect ur cars guys!!!

i now understand that eg's can use the k20a ecu per no immobilizer on the ecu but that doesnt really make sense if the eg had an immobilizer, he would have to get an ecu reprogrammed in order for it to work, that is the whole point of an immobilizer so people cant take one ecu from a kseries motor powered car and throw it into another kseries motor powered car and have it work with no problem such as the old honda problems, i.e. crow bar and p28 or p27...the immobilizers codes have to match for it to work

I think there is a confusion on what exactly an immobilizer is...
In an rsx/ep3 the immobilizer is a dual tone RFID signal which is emitted by the key. The ECU has to recognize the signal as acceptable or unacceptable to start the car. If the ECU has no immobilizer capabilities(ie JDM DC5-R ECU) then all you have to do is turn the car on. Weather you use a key or a crowbar it doesn't matter, even though your car is "setup" for an immobilizer.
The immobilizer isn't really part of the car, just the ECU and Key. That is why I can't just swap any USDM type S ECU in my RSX obviously.
Now I haven't torn down my RSX like I have civics and integras but I do belive that there is a "reciver ring" around the key column which actually recives the RFID signal emitted by the key. I saw a guy who used this ring in his EG when he did a K-swap. He used a USDM Type S ECU and just stuck the RSX key on his keychain and used his EG key to start his car. He said it was cheaper than getting K-pro cause he was a lil low on $$$ after the swap. Not only that but he had an immobilizer set up on his EG. Don't quote me on that though cause it was a thread I read along time ago and I could be mistaken on the details.

there is a "receiver ring" around the steering column, you have to unplug that **** when you get kpro or you will be tormented by the green key light constantly flashing in your gauge cluster....had that thing on for like 30 min til i got home from the dealership, **** is annoying as hell lololol
now i have heard that the ecu from the R is tuned differently, wont that mess with the setup of the usdm motor with the R ecu??
I'm no tunner or fuel map expert, but I really doubt it. I dont' know all the specifics on k-series ECU's as far as fuel maps, or when vtec hits, but I'm pretty sure the Type R ECU just gives a lil more fuel across the powerband. That is prolly and over simplified explination but you get the idea.
B-series guys run type r chips on a P28 with a b16 motor all the time...no problems. Remeber k-series motors are still just motors haha.
