SRS clock spring
My SRS light is on because of a bad clock spring. I've replaced the clock spring 3 times with junkyard parts. The light goes away for a while after after a couple of months it goes away. I ohmed out the last spring and sure enough, all the connections were open even the horn button. Is there something that might be causing the clock spring to burn out? Or maybe all the clock springs are just too old and are worn out.
Any ideas?
This is for a 93 Civic DX. There's only a single driver's side airbag.

I suggest getting a new clock spring or just removed the bulb on the srs if its that annoying for you...the used springs just gets worn out...
The light doesn't bother me. I would like to have a functional airbag and horn. Unfortunately clock springs are pretty expensive so I wanted to make sure it's truly the problem and not the symptom of something else.
How do you check center? On my junk one I can spin it around numerous times in both directions with no apparent resistance. I haven't cracked it open yet. Is it literally wires on a spool. Or some time of circular contact?

im also using a used spring but with no issues. The one im using is pretty old and nasty and I have a backup thats really clean. I looked in the honda manual and it states that there is marker for how it should be positioned. Maybe something electically is shorting them out. I am not try to scare you with my opionion and to tell you the truth i am no electrical genius, its just a guess. When swapping out your clock springs are you reseting the srs light too?
I positioned the spring according to the marker and manual which is just an up arrow. There are two plastic nubs on the spring that align with the steering wheel.
I haven't been resetting the SRS light. When I plug in the new clock spring, the light just goes out. When I turn the ignition key, the SRS light comes on while the module is running diagnostics and then goes out so I assumed that I didn't need to reset the unit. As the spring is wearing, I see the light flicker on and off as I turn the wheel.

I replaced mine and light was still present. I had to do the famous srs reset trick. If your not familiar with it, just google it. Ithink there is a video on youtube for this trick
That would be nice if this is the issue. then you can sell the other 3 clock springs you have.

Most people are doing the reset trick since their SRS light won't go off. Once I replaced the spring, the light goes off. After a couple of months of driving, the light flickers as I turn the wheel until it just stays on. My car is a '93 so the SRS system may of not had that "feature"
They are the same except for the cruise control wires, but that shouldn't matter as even non cruise control wheels are wired for cruise control, but without the actual cruise control plug. Good luck!
Bump this as I'd like to know as well.
The 93 has a different setup as to where the SRS wire is to reset it (I've read it's on the passenger side under the glove box) so if anyone has done this to their 93 or prior civic, please chime in.

Inside is a long ribbon cable that wraps around the center as the wheel turns. If you are playing with it and spinning the thing around, then no telling how tight it is inside. If it's too tight when you put it in, turning the wheel will put too much stress on the internal connections and break it. It needs some slack for that ribbon cable to wind and unwind when the steering wheel is turning. You will need to reset the light after replacement.

interesting point about being a 93. Hopefully someone can chime in with more info
