Need help PLZ overdrive maybe?
I have a 95 Honda accord lx 6cyl. When i am doing 75 on the thruway the rpm is at 5000 i do not think this is right. I was wondering if maybe it is not going in to overdrive or if there is an overdrive button and how do i find out what it might be. Any help would be greatly appricated thank you in advance!
5000 RPM @ 75mph sure sounds like it's staying in 3rd gear to me.
There is no overdrive button. You should drive the car with "D4" selected on the shifter, not "D3." The D3 position locks out 4th gear.
Problem could be anything from a faulty trans computer to a clogged shift solenoid to a bad trans.
Is the Check Engine light on? Does the green "D4" light in the gauge cluster ever blink?

Well, you've certainly lost converter lock-up.
See if you can feel three distinct upshifts tomorrow.
1-2
2-3
3-4
if the Torque Converter Lock-Up were working; you'd fell a sensation akin to a 'half shift' when the car reaches your desired cruise speed.

I am a she but i have been working on cars with my dad for years now but i not know that detailed stuff like this SO i appreciate any info that might help me figure this problem. Thank you !
The four cylinder cluster is expecting four signal pulses/rpm, instead it's seeing six. Thus reads 150% of the true RPM.
5000rpm/6 x 4 = 3300rpm
Nice to know the math holds up.
I was really only 175 RPM off on my estimate.
