This thread for my civic.
Ok what the ****. Now I'm mad. Just look at the ****ing pictures and you'll understand.

The one on the right is the 100$ fakey put in by the previous owner. The one on the left is the new oem wideband. They dont fit together.

This is the harness for the currently installed o2 sensor that is an autozone special.
Input. Thoughts. Assistance. Thanks.
Matt

You should have mentioned you had a HX first. Anyway, it looks like the previous owner cut the wideband plug off and replaced it with a regular 4 pin narrowband O2 plug.
You will have to get the other end of that plug from another HX harness and splice it to your original engine harness. That plug also looks familar and might be used else where on honda engine harnesses, of couse the wire colors will be different.

no prob
F*ck you are definately right... the new o2 has 5wires, the recieving harness has four.
Do you think that the wire is still in the engine bay somewhere, and they just left it dangling?

Clearly the previous owner just hooked up an "ordinary" non-wideband O2 sensor, probably in attempt to save money. So you'll need to find the other end of the plug (at a junkyard or at the dealership), and wire it up yourself. That's assuming that you're getting a check engine light code for having the wrong O2 sensor.

Yep I get the CEL for the o2 sensor, and i only average 28-32mpg city driving.. most hx'ers average 38-40mpg city driving.
Like I previously asked, is it possible that wire is just dangling somewhere underhood? Which wire is missing, and where does it come from?

Well after a little searching only the manual transmission HXs use a wideband, is yours auto or manual?
That 5th wire is probably under the split loom, open up the harness and pull it back.

It should be a Red wire, connected at pin C24 at the ECU. Unless the previous owner swapped in a different harness, or unless you car really isn't an HX and just has the D16Y5 swapped in, the wire should be there somewhere under the hood. If you can't find it, you could just add the wire directly from the ECU, run it through the firewall, to the plug.

No it's an hx.. long transmission and slow as **** and all that...
But I'll look around for a red wire then.
Thanks for the input bro.. i'll let you know tomorrow what I find out

Woooooow so get this.
Apparently, there are TWO hookups for o2's!! The one that appears rigged, as follows, seems to run to the firewall, and then downwards under the car???

This next one I found, seems to run to the distributor, a sensor atop the throttle body, and some other sensor..

yet amazingly, my new o2 sensor thats oem honda, doesn't fit EITHER of them.
What the ****.

go to honda dealership and and get a new plug for it and splice it in, try to find the 5th wire im sure its somewhere up in that loom, we couldnt tell you if it is just dangling in the engine bay, thats for you to look and tell us.

Dogg this is pissing me off and confusing me to no end.
The new harness that I found dangling, the second picture in my post above, HAS five wires.. that harness attaches to the intake sensor, TB sensor, dizzy, and somethine else I think... but it's the wrong connector. I cant believe some lazy bastards would do this **** to avoid buying a sensor they'll never again buy.
Do you think I can splice my new o2 into that new stock-looking harness I found atop the motor?

You should really get a helms manual and go by wire colors and pin locations at the ECU and then ohm the wires through. You do know there is supposed to be two O2 sensors, 1 before the cat and 1 after.

yes I know. I am wondering if maybe they tapped the rear o2 into the front o2 or some ****??? Since the wiring harness they are using for the front cat is running to the rear of the firewall, underneath the car it seems...
I think I'm gonna match wire colors up and see if I can splice my new o2 into that harness I found on top of the motor by the dizzy.

Ok a small update.
Something tells me, that the frontmost cat isn't stock. It's kinda shiny, a bigger diameter than the exhaust tubing but not normal cat shaped, and I notice no o2's in it. For that matter, I cant find a rear o2.
Now here's my conspiracy theory.
The rear o2 was taken and rigged to be the front o2... the wires they are using for the front o2 are red yellow black white blue.. oddly enough, the red and black are put into the same pin, turning it into a 4pin connector. The wiring for this connector comes from a large plastic tubing housing TONS of wires, going to the rear left of the engine bay, and splicing off to somewhere going to the bottom right of the engine bay.
I cant find any secondary o2 sensor, I looked everywhere.
The new wideband o2 sensor I bought consists of yellow gray black white and blue. The only two wires differnt on this o2 and the wiring on the shitty o2 are the black red I think... so it seems as though it could splice in. But where the **** is my secondary o2 then???
please help me... i'm getting mad and frusterated

Any pics of the exhaust manifold? The catalytic converter should be directly underneath, they're basically an integrated unit.
Edit. The wideband O2 sensor plug looks the same as an OBD1 D/B-series distributor plug.

Which part of the exhaust manifold? I'll take a look and a pic. The thing that I thought looked like a cat was one near the front-middle underneath, and another near the rear of the car.

You might want to consider just getting a different wiring harness for your car.
