1997 Accord SE: H22 removal... Engine options? Will '90 F22 work?
Look I know someone will say search but I have yet to find this awnsered.
I have a 97 SE, it has a Euro R swap. I am removing it for another project.
The question is will any F22 from 90 to 97 work?
Are there any limitations?
I am already converted to ODB1 at the ecu.
If I had a 90 engine will i need the obd1 engine harness(94-95) or are they all the same?
Will a '97 ecu (if i were to remove the conversion harness) run the '90 engine?
Also all of the '90 and up Accords had a hydro tranny correct? Waht about axles?
Lastly all of the mounts are all the same as well, correct me if i am wrong.
Thank you.
If there is already a thread that covers ALL this info please give me a link and lock this one.

It looks like the SEARCH is back up so all of your questions should be answered there. But out of curiosity, why would you want to swap out the Euro R? Its like working backwards when you already have a 4k motor in your car.
Anyway, the f/h series motors and trans (manual) basically all match each other. The wiring is gonna be very specific based on the application and your intentions on the build. What are you planning to do?

Well I would say there are a few options for you.
The engine from the 90-93 accords are the F22A1, A4, and A6 I believe.
The engine from the 94-97 accords the F22B1 VTEC, and F22B2 to name a few.
Also I believe the preludes came with the F23A1 which would fit as well. From what I know, the differences between the F22A engines and the F22B engines is mainly all in the heads, intake, and exhaust, and the blocks are basically identical.
To the best of my knowledge all of these engines should be a direct fit into the engine bay as well as a direct fit to the transmission. When you say the '90 and up accord have a "hydo-tranny" are you referring to the clutch? If you are then yes, all the '90-97 accords use a hydraulic clutch set up.
As for the ECU's and wiring harnesses, this will mosy likely be your biggest problem. Im assuming the ECU you have right now is the non-VTEC version? If so then you could probably run any of the F22 non-VTEC engines, although im not sure if the fuel-maps changed throughout the years... I would imagine they would have but I dont see how a '90 engine couldnt run off a '97 ECU. Well I guess if worst came to worse and you installed say a F22A1 engine and it didnt run well off the '97 ECU then you could just go to the junkyard and get an ECU outta a 90-93 accord

So for the wiring Iwould have to use the '90 harness thats on the engine? I thought maybe I could use a 94 harness on the engine.
Will they plug into my 97 shock tower plugs? Then I could convert the motor to obd1 at the ecu.

5.if its for the 97 chassis any 94-97 axles will be fine.
6.engine mounts are different
Finally some awnsers... thank you alot.
one last inquery, you say the mounts are different but the stock 90 engine mounts will work w/ the 90 engine in my 97 chassis right?
