misses when warmed up
Last night i drove my car for about 30 minutes, I stopped at a stop sign and hear it missing at an idle. its a si with a h22a swap, I changed the spark plugs and checked the compression and its all good. The wires are new. does it sound like a distibutar problem to you all?
Ignition timing perhaps. Get one of those stores (autozone etc) to check your ignition timing. Obd 1 you'll have to jumper the service connector to make changes to your base ignition timing. If you need the proper method look in your honda manual (and yes you all should have one by now, every one of you)
umm. . . autozone and the other stores don't check ignition timing. the only things we can check are batterys, alt, starters (off the car) some ignintion control modules (mostly domestic ones) and older voltage regulators. and obd2 cels. i check obd1 cels on general motors, dodge, and hondas if time allows.
Why wouldn't they? That sucks. It takes 1 tool and probably 5 minutes to do a timing check. So they will hook up a code reader and bring up the codes but they wouldn't do a timing check lol?? If I was running the store Id do as much of those little things as time and tools permit. Brings lots of customers to their doors and than they can sell the customer the part they might need to fix it :D.
Have to buy a timing gun than for 50-60 dollers than. Or borrow one from a friend. Or just feel your way around to adjust the timing.
I would suggest marking a line accross your dizzy onto where its mounted so you know its current orientation. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT MISS THAT STEP.
Than jumper your service connector, lossen three bolts holding your distributor in place and rotate your dizzy a bit untill your idle fluctuates. If your miss fire goes away this is your issue. If it doesn't than return it to its origional place. If you start hearing pinging or anything make sure you put your dizzy right back to where it started and tighten back down the bolts. IE. just don't rotate the dizzy too much too fast. Just nice and slow and listen to your idle.
If whats wrong with your car is what I'm thinking you'll only have to adjust your timing by a few degrees (and I think you'll be retarding it (towards front of car), but play around with it both advancing/retarding to be safe) to correct it.
If no change in idle occurs, no harm no foul. Put the dizzy back to where the line, lines up with the line you drew to mark its orientation, and tighten down the bolts. After that I don't really know what to suggest given what you've tried soo far.

Im a mechanic so I have a snap-on solice obd1 and 2 reader, I have ngk iridium plugs I'm unsure of the spark heat but I have ran my scan tool on it and it isn't throwing any codes(well any differant from the egr code before) it also has ngk plug wires. the rotor button looks a little worn but the cap looks great. I think it could be the distibuter or the internal coil. the car is in time and it only does it at an idle. so it isnt out of time because it would spit and spudder when trying to speed up. the timing had been retarded about a degree but I advanced it back to proper timing after it started doing this. any thoughts?
Oh and by the way autozone cant even clear the codes because they dont fix the issue with the car( or at least there not suposed to). and a lot of the poeple that work at auto zone dont even know how to check obd1 or obd 0.
