i had mine re-built a month or so back, it cost me $420 for a head set, piston rings, timing belt and head port and polish. then the big shock...$640 for labour!! i thought this was a bit excessive, i reckon a strip down, replace all seals/gaskets in the head, then replace rings (the port/polish and valve re-ground was done by another shop and cost $120) then replace and rebulid engine would not take more than 12-15 hours at an hourly rate of $30 would leave the bill for labour at around $450-$500, maybe i'm mis-judging the time involved but the labour costs sort of freeked me out. What have the reat of you all paid. BTW this was for a B18C engine

my build consisted of $225 for tear down, mic ing all parts, boring cylinders, honing, and complete bottom end balancing w/clutch and flywheel.
its this guy in yakima. i used to work with his son. yes those r his normal prices. hes a privateer and has been building motors since dinosaurs were around. the guy is awesome. problem is hes alone and takes a long time to get it done. his breakdown was something close to this. tear down was like $30 per hr. mic ing all parts was like an hr $30. boring per cylinder $10. honing per cylinder $7. my lower end hardly had to b touched so balancing was only $125 instead of normal V8 at $175.
i was his first honda. hes doin my best friends H22 right now. so thats #2 honda for him. im sending him another motor of mine as soon as i get it.

Does he work on many Hondas, or mostly domestics?
