Does powdercoating brake calipers cause them to "trap" heat?
A shop that had coated my JDM Type R header with a heat barrier coating had also recommended a heat dispersal coating for brake calipers to dissipate heat energy built up from hard braking, to aid cooling. He recommended against powdercoating, saying the powder treatment would trap heat in the caliper and not allow it to dissipate freely. Unfortunately, the coating he offered only came in a sort of dull greasy grey color. Are there any coatings out there that would offer the same quality and variety of colors as a powdercoat, but would have better heat dissipation qualities? My car is a daily driver that I use for weekend autocross, and I am prepping the car for the all-Honda Fastbrake brake caliper upgrade.
Electroplating.. how durable is it and how well does it hold up to high temps? And what other colors are available? At the very least, is black available?
