99 Accord Timing Belt
I have a 100K miles. When I change the timing belt should I replace the tensioner and the water pump? I have read horror stories of repeating the job 3 months later because the pump leaked or the tensioner sqeals. Should I use Honda parts?
When changing the timing belt, the manual states you need a special tool to hold the crank shaft pully while you loosen the bolt. Do I have to go to Honda to get this tool, or is there a trick holding the pulley?

use honda parts for sure....
change the water pump for sure....i haven't heard of people changing the tensioner...but maybe
i dont know anything about doing it...well, actually i'm going it right now...but the engine is out of the car so thats a little different...i'd probably pay someone to do it if the engine was in the car...doesn't look fun

you should always change out the water pump when doing a timing belt...a friend of mine made the mistake of not doing it and ended up paying for it 4 months later when he pump f**ked up on him.
I'm doing mine here in a few weeks. definately do the water pump, because the cost of the part vs. the ammount of labor just makes it rediculous not to. defiantely get Honda parts.
unbolt the starter, and you can see the flywheel. just put a large screwdriver in there and you don't need to have the special tool. but see if auto zone rents it. it's a $40 deposit to rent tools and then you get your money back when you return it.

I've seen too many water pumps start leaking after 120,000 miles. It just makes sense to replace it when you are doing a timing belt. As for the tensioner, why wait until it fails? Replace it now. Also check the cam shaft and crank shaft seals. If they look even a little damp, do them too. Use only "Honda Genuine Parts", if you don't you will be sorry. Honda timing belts are good for 90,000 miles, others are good for 60,000 if you are lucky. Good luck.
