92 accord tranny question. plz hlp
I have a 1992 accord ex automatic with about 206k miles on it. Basically my car has been having an enormous amount of wiring issues since I got it; I have now fixed all of them except two. One of the issues I believe is related to wiring but not sure is when I start my car I normally turn the key and wait for the car to prime up then start it. When I do this the D4 light will start blinking which is normal and my car will drive fine but it will totally skip 2ng gear and go into 3rd, as you can see its makes going up hills difficult, it doesn’t even try to go into 2ng so I have to manually do it. But.. if I start my car right up without waiting the D4 light doesn’t blink and it will drive normal the way it should for about 45 minutes then it will go into a crazy skipping and slipping gear session until the D4 light blinks again then I’m back to how it always is. I have been driving the car like this for two years..
Now before I assume this is my tranny and replace it I wanted to hear ur guys opnion anything will help..
BTW this is my 1st automatic and you can believe I will never buy another..

The trick will be to determine if the TCM (Tansmission Control module) is reacting to a problem, or is the problem itself.
There are three things which stick out with this....
Fluid Oxidation / clogged filter screens
Faulty Shift Solenoid(s) / connections
TCM (common failure in these forums)
When was the last time the fluid was serviced?
There are two paired Shift Solenoids which have filter screens incorporated in their base gaskets. Have the solenoids been checked for continuity and their filters been checked for blockage? Has the wiring to these solenoids been checked for damage (you mention wiring issues)
check those and we'll talk about the TCM later.

Sweet! Thanks for the info. Every time I tell some1 about it they say right away I need a New tranny. This is great I didn't think it would be only the tranny. So as far the fluids if by that u mean (tranny fluid) I never had it checked but I will have it replaced ill probably do it myself, and as far as the solenoids I will goto honda and have them check them and will post back soon hopefully. Ty for ur help
P_Adams, thanks again for your info.
So I have since changed the TCM (Transmission Control module) with a working one last night from my mom’s accord (exact same model). Still same problem...
So when I get some more money I’m going to have the fluid changed (JIFFY LUBE?) due to the weather here I don’t want to change it myself anymore. Now when I do this is there anything I need to be asking them? Can they check the clogged filter screens? And will changing it solve the Oxidation?
I’m sorry if I sound stupid I’m just learning all this car stuff I’m more of a PC guy. Also for the Faulty Shift (Solenoids / connections) do you have or know any information on these, Like where to find them or what to look for etc?

also..
after more googling i found this (see attached)
but i can only locate one set in my car (so just the one on the top of the pic) and the wiring seems fine but the only real way to know is to have it tested i guess..
