Default Clear Nail Polish to Prevent Rust?

Just curious.

Say I have a specialized bolt that would be very difficult to replace, however it's prone to rusting.

What would be the best way to protect said bolt? Since it's a small application, I was thinking of using clear nail polish to coat it. I suppose I could get some clear varnish or clear coat and do the same thing.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Not really sure how well that would work, I would probably just pack a ton of grease over it, and try to keep it greased over time.

you're right... totally forgot about the lube.. lol jk..

what about getting a new one machined from stainless?

if its that hard to replace, i think it'd be worth the money to get a few made. what application is it for anyway?

EDIT: when you say "hard to replace" are you talking about hard-to-find or hard-to-get-to.
