Hey guys,

I want to make a RICE interior, black though, no more fancy colours. I just want it clean, inspired from the original, with a modern touch. Now I have a Civic EG4 1995. I'd like to take the door panels off and give them a new life. I'd like to repaint them black and all because they're fading, but what I'd really like to do, is to remove the grooves on the plastic that it's made of. Prime it, coat it black and put a nice clear on to make it shiny. Is this possible ? If so, what are the best ways to do this ?

i dont think you can remove them. if by grooves you mean like all the little ... damn how do you explain it???? well yea i guess groves will be the right way.
you can use a low grit sand paper but im not sure if it will leave marks since i have not done it

 

Maybe I could put a coat of something rather thick on it, thus removing the grooves, and sand it. Then I could go on with the normal painting procedures. That " rather thick " stuff, what could it be ?

 

Yeah man, the texture you know. The small bumps all over it. That annoying cheap look. What do you think of my idea ?

 

At worst, I'll get a piece of it at the salvage yard and make some tests I guess. Get this b*tch ready for this summer.

 

well its a stock look. and personally i like it better than flat.
umm.... the only thing i can think of to remove it is like ultra fine grit sand paper. doing a wet sand on it. as for the "thick layer" of something, i do not know.

whats with the bold? any way if you want it all black, set the girl ablaze lol but really use a course grit paper to get the bumps gone then a fine grit to smooth them out

 

Yeah man, I'll make a new thread next week when this is done. I'll get a broken panel and see what I can do from there. I'll cut it up in different pieces and try different methods.

Don't get me wrong, I like the original interior. I've just seen too much of it. I want the same look, with a twist.

BTW, the bold gets the point of the post understood. Most people get lost while reading different posts because there's just so much questions asked in any one of them.

SEM Plastic and Vinyl Color Coat works great. I painted my rear interior panels black to match my door panels. Now they look just like stock 96-97 del Sol panels, and the paint doesn't chip or anything.

Amazing stuff, I highly recommend it.

I'll try and remember to get some today.

 

Use a high build primer it may take a few coats. Wet sand the last coat then apply the color you want. Just keep in mind that a gloss is going to give off allot of glare.

I've got some other good ideas for the interior. I'll wait until it's done to show, not for anyone to make it before me and take some credit.

 

I've seen this done, but with fiberglass. That must be a true b*atch though ...

 

Ive done it at a shop i used to work at when rice was all the craze at shows. Did it exactly how i suggested to you. If you use fiberglass on your dash or panels it will eventually crack.

 

ive painted my interior black and red, i test many sprays and i found that sem lucenda (sp?) black, looked great, wasnt too glossy and wasnt too dull i think it was a perfect stock look. first i used wax and grease remover to take the protective sray manufactuers use on parts. then i used 400 grit sand paper, went over it agian with the wax and grease remover. then i painted it. didnt use primer wasnt needed. and i had the red custom mixed to match the milano red... hope that helps you for the painting part of your project

this maybe a crazy idea since i do not know much about body work and the materials involved etc. but what about a real thin coat of bondo on top and just sand the bondo down? would that get in between the infamous textured grooves? and come out smooth?

again, i could be totally off here, excuse me if i am
