Well, Honda MTF was designed for your transmission. With that in mind, it would be the obvious choice. But the GM Synchromesh is often recommended to those with minor grind issues.

Well, you can try the Synchromesh if you are having grind issues...but don't expect a miracle. You will likely need minor transmission work in the near future.

GM Synchromesh covers the problem. But I do notice a slight improvement in shifting though.

Most improvements felt are probably due to the adding of new fluid and not of a different fluid. Think about it, if you replace your 50K tranny oil with new stuff (syncro or Honda MTF) it is going to 'feel better' regardless. Also, feeling better does not necessarily equate to it being better for your transmission. Lastly, if there is something wrong with your transmission fluid will not fix it.

My 0.02: Put honda fluid in a honda. Save the GM stuff for GMs.

honda trannys wernt made for synthetic oil. the synchros are supposed to be dry when they come together not still covered with fluid.

My third gear was grinding before my last engine swap, that had like 1k miles of tranny fluid that my mechanic had put whatever fluid in it. When I did my zc vtec swap, I filled the tranny with 10w-30 and the little bit of syncromesh that I had left from pennzoil and the grinding went away. Like someone else stated earlier, just changing the fluid may help. Me personally, I think that the tranny wasn't filled completely like it should for my grinding.

put in the syncomesh a big diffence it dosent grind at all driving it easy before it would grind 3rd unless i let the rpms drop all the way down before shifting gears and it shifts like butter thru the rest of the gears

Syncromesh FTW

I used Honda mtf/royal purple/gm sync. I personally didnt notice a huge difference. I used gm sync in my rebuit tranny. Shifts really smooth.

GM Synchromesh is not synthetic... when I first changed my transmission fluid honda hadn't came out with their new stuff as this was back in 99-00 and I put the honda transmission fluid in and wasn't really impressed with it especially in the winter time the shifting felt notchy between gears and didn't matter if the tranny was warmed up or not. I read on here about the synchromesh so I decided to try it, the only place I found it not at the dealer was at autozone they had the pennzoil synchromesh which is the same as gm's but a lot cheaper.

Yeah, that's the only place I can find it at. Napa and advance auto don't carry the pennzoil syncromesh, you have to get it from Autozone. It was less than $11 a quart if I remember correctly.

i was a true honda tranny fluid guru no lie, i started get a grind in 3rd gear with honda mtf,
i was sure i had to rebuild it. i was like fock it let me change the fluid. so i changed it and put in snycro mesh which is made by penzoil and is sold in pep boys. car still had a grind, i was pissed off. so i drove it for about 100 miles i would by pass 3rd go into 4th. one day i was messing with friends and was like fock it im going through all the gears, red light 2nd into 3rd hard no grind. i was like wtf. so i slowed down shift into 2nd red lined it again and into 3rd no grind. Be for i changed my fluid i had a steady grind at 4krpm or above. so im very pleaseed with this fluid weather it is better i am not sure but im very happy with it..
