Post H22 pistons question

Ok i just purchased a jdm h22a motor with about 40k on it, i was thinking of putting in type s pistons and cams in the motor to get alittle more power out of it. Do i need to bore the motor to put in type s pistons in it or can i do stock 87mm bore type s pistons and drop them right in, just reusing the older rings? and can i use the stock valvetrain with type s cams? Also do i need to get h22a4 rods to work with those type s pistons?

You need to inspect the cylinder walls to see if there is any scaring and also to see if they are within spec of what the shop manual states. This will determine if you need to bore the cylinder wall. If they are within spec, you could get away without boring it out.

You should get new piston rings and you'll need to use the h22a4 rods with the type s pistons.

As for the type s cams, i'm not sure...sorry bud.

h22a1 is usdm 93-96... IIRC JDM motors came with only 4 digits/places. H22A

gotcha. Can you reuse the jdm h22a crank with the h22a4 rods? and i guess at that point you might as well buy a aftermarket rod like eagle rods?

You should be able to, as only the main journal sizing was different between the closed deck h22a and open deck h22a4.
