09 Civic si Hondata Reflash is now availible.

A better comparison would be one with a reflash and one without but with the same mods (RH + exhaust). The chart above shows a stock car then another with a reflash + modifications. Obviously, the gains are going to be significant.
Hopefully most people are aware that the biggest benefit of the reflash is for the much improved midrange. The reflash won't improve high-end (except if you think raising the rev limit to 8600 will) so it's not going to make anymore high-end power than your stock ECU. In my opinion, it's a waste of money and many of us are still waiting for an affordable tunable setup. As I said before in the past, it's not going to happen any time soon because the reflashes are selling like hotcakes. Hondata doesn't have any incentives to speed up development of an affordable tuning system for our K20z3 because people continue to buy their reflashes.
People often ask why the SI's are tuned the way they are and I think it's because:
A.) of fuel economy, and
B.) the kid ricer in all of us enjoys it when we feel the surge and the sound of the aggressive lobes switching in @ 5800 rpm.
I'll take more torque earlier and usable linear power band any day then the OMG vtec surge at 5800rpm.
We all know how fast you can row through the gears even when you aren't getting on it. If I had the reflash, I'd be right below VTEC every shift when I'm not ripping it. LOL.
I would love to have a midrange but I know I'd still miss the VTEC surge. With the reflash, VTEC doesn't throw you back in your seat like the stock crossover does. Still a midrange would be nice...lol.

I know the reflash isn't supposed to add peak power but I've heard you usually gain a few with it. The difference isn't just a rc; one has a 3" exhaust on an otherwise stock car, while the other has a 3" exhaust, race header and reflash.
It seems to me that most people are after fairly easy to use bolt ons, and aren't after ultimate tunability. You'll find a lot of people driving around on the street who'll admit to you that they have gone too far with their street cars and have turned them into beasts that really aren't more fun to drive than the cars would have been if they'd stopped with basic bolt ons.
I understand your point.
But it sounds like you're at a higher stage of development than the typical driver who just wants a street car that is a little more fun.
Very impressive. I dunno there I have a bit of trouble convincing myself with getting my ECU reflashed with such a brand new car. I may look into this in 2 years or so but that's just me. Look's like a great product though!
I understand your points completely.

I'm convinced that Honda is freaking retarded.
