Default New car new 1/4 et

well i had a stock 2002 ap1 for about a year ran it at the track a few times and came up with a best of

14.4 @ 97 with a 2.15 60foot

a few weeks ago i upgraded to a 2005 ap2, went to the track last night and had a best of

13.808 @ 97 with a 2.002 60foot

what i dont understand is the ap2 seems to be much faster and was apparently capable of a better time but why is the trap speed still the same, is it because the car is getting that much better traction?

I think the gearing is going to be the biggest single difference and that would explain why the time improved but not the MPH. the gearing along with the little extra torque will get you off the line quicker. you had the 02-03 AP1 with the different factory tune so your peak HP isn't all that different from your AP2.

pretty interesting results, my buddy got a 13.9 @ 99 out of his stock AP2, pretty similar.

Got to have a little more info. What tires on each car (size, brand, model). You didn't mention any mods on the AP2 (wheels, CDV removal, etc). Same track (which one)? Dates and time of day of the runs to find the weather (it was uncharacteristically cold in FL Wednesday through Friday).

both cars were completely stock ... the tires on the ap1 were some 245/45/16 sumitomo htr z on my spoon wheels ... the ap2 has 245/40/17 toyo t1r's

when i would leave in the ap1 the wheels would spin like crazy coming out ... now in the ap2 i get pretty good traction ... what i was thinking is more traction=lower mph but better et

Toyo T1R stick much better than the HTR Z. But don't discount the temperature. It was cold Friday night...what was the track temp when you ran your AP1? And if you were at a different track...say Gainesville for one and Bithlo for the other, then it's a little harder to compare track conditions.

The gearing is probably good for .2-.3 , and shaving .1 off of 60' is usually good for at least .3 at the big end.

that makes a lot of sense ... i just thought for sure that the ap2 would trap higher ... both nights in both cars were similar condition and both at orlando speed world

not mine 97 was the highest .....

only thing i think i can do to get a little more mph out of the ap2 is to not shift into 5th at the top of the track but instead try to ride it out to limiter ... i'll see if i can get 100mph out of 4th gear

Is that all code for, "if I didn't have a vagina"? I love all aspects of racing, and S2k is good at it, especially after the motor is built and is boosted.

True story!! I love how a lot of guys think the extra 1000 RPM they get with the AP1 is better. But the little more torque, and shorter gears, makes a noticeable difference in the AP2.

when will you numskulls get it thru your head.. NO CAR IS BUILT for DRAG it is just SIMPLY DRAGGED....
and when will you learn that teh AP2 was more DRIVER friendly so any numb numb can drive it better then they could a AP1.
only a good driver can propel a AP1 to the times it is cap. of. the AP2 is just easier to drive with...

Interesting concept. So it takes a good driver to run good times in an AP1, but anyone can run a good time in an AP2? You must have an AP1 right?

the average driver, YES.... S2K's in general need someone who isnt ***** when it comes to driving. I laugh every time i see a S2K at the drag strip coming out the hole they are bogging it to all hell...

plus to the OP theres no way in knowing in what condition his AP1 was in. and he could have had a better feel for the track his 2nd go around with the AP2 unlike he did with his AP1.
i am not making this a AP1/AP2 battle both are good cars but AP2 is more friendly.
