190 hp on ap1 s2000
Hi, I own a ap1 2001 S2000 and went to the dyno, just to know the hp on this car. There was no tuning done.
It's completely stock. The only thing the car has is a cold air intake and
the catalytic converter was removed. Also the stock exhaust were changed to other high flow exhausts. The piping is still stock 2.25.
Is 190 hp too low for this car. I have no cel on and checked the compression on all cylinder and they were all 225.
Any sugestions??

Sounds totally normal.
Comparing absolute figures is essentially useless, because it depends on a number of factor such as type of dyno (Mustang, Dynojet, Dynapack, etc.), calibration, ambient temps, elevation/air pressure, etc. Some dyno operators can make a dynamometer spit out just about any figures that a customer is looking for without even touching the car.
You should only really use dyno figures as a baseline to measure the effectiveness of modifications.

It was dynoed on a dynojet and it was kind of hot on that night.
I asked, because I see allot of stock S2000 making from 200 to 215 hp.
My mileage is about 55000 miles.
I thought maybe something wasn't right.

seems about right...the lowest i've scene completely stock s2k do(no I/H/E) was 192whp. you could be losing power from exhaust, minimal 1-2hp, but not likely. what type of exhaust is it?
also did you let the car cool off before dyno? did they have fans blowing during your runs? because heatsoak is a bitch...

i went to the a dyno one day and put 201 down on my integra and the guy before me was in an s2k and i think he only put down 191...he seemed a little pissed when my car was on the dyno lol

How big a difference would the ECU change be? I also own a 00' with bolt-ons. Or would the VAFC2 be more effective cause I have one of those that's been sitting in my room for months, lol...
02 03 is supposed to be leaner on fuel (i havnt seen any evidence to back this up) so it would be cheap few horses and still safe, where a afc your going to have to use a wide band and tune it

AP1s run pig rich from the factory. You could get a afc and wideband to lean it out and gain some power. if you already have VAFC then look into a wideband (Innovative
) and getting your car tuned
) and getting your car tuned
it does seem a little low, are you at a higher elevation maybe? I have a 2001 s2000 and stock it was 190 hp on dyno, which seems to be the going stock hp rating of ap1's give or take a couple of hp. I put on k&n fipk intake and an invidia testpipe, (which broke 6 months later) and went to 202 hp, everything else is stock. I have not heard of exhaust losing hp but I do know the exhaust manifold will lose some hp and guys will gain the hp back by putting stock header back on. You could search for more info on s2ki.com to maybe help some more, not to pull you away from here, but it's more aimed towards just the s2000.
I live in Aruba, it's an island in the caribbean and it's usually very hot here.
My headers and piping are still stock. The only thing I removed was the 2 stock mufflers and changed them for cheap high flow mufflers. There is no brand on them. Maybe I just need to buy a complete catback and see the results. Also on the dyno I had no filter on.

You should invest in quality name brand parts that have been proven to work. What type/brand intake do you have? What size test pipe do you have? Get a good exhaust and then tune to pull the most out of the engine and add-ons.

But either way, every dyno is different. Just because it only made 195hp on that dyno doesn't mean it wouldn't dyno higher or lower on another dyno. Using dyno numbers is pretty tricky.
Either way...your mods probably aren't doing much to help out. The whole stock exhaust system was painfully designed to make power. You can't just hack parts of it out to try to make more power. You'll usually end up losing some by modding the stock exhaust.
If you want an exhaust, buy a catback that's engineered and proven to make power. It's going to cost around $1k and up.
If you want cheap power, just put the car back to stock. It's either you spend a good amount of money to make power or $0 so you don't lose power.
Not that some cheap mods don't make a tiny bit of power. I'm just making a general statement.
