My tech post for the year: brake light on a BYS wing.
After having a BYS replica sitting around for like six months, I finally got off my *** and started working on it.
First, it was painted silver. And the paint was well done, might I add... so I had to strip it.
I had it in all kinds of chemical baths... from paint thinner, to goo be gone, to paint stripper, aircraft paint stripper, etc, etc
It only kinda worked. and with hours of me trying to chisel off the paint, I managed to scrap a little too hard and got under the clear coat of the actual wing.
Oops.
Second, I resort to sand paper. I spend 4 hours sanding off the remaining bits. Now, the clear coat over the carbon fibre is slightly scruffed. Oh well, wanted to paint it anyways.
Third, test fit. slapped it on the car. Looks alright, but wait, no third brake light. not cool.
Fourth, go to junk yard and find a spoiler with a third brake light that's similar in size and shape to the BYS. ($5.50)
Fifth, cut BYS spoiler, then primer BYS spoiler for paint. ($5 for paint)
Sixth, temporarily install brake light.
Seventh, take pictures.
Eighth, finish prep work (Sanding, epoxy or whatever to fix my mistakes with the clear coat, then more primer, then paint).
Ninth, install, enjoy.
Here are the pictures so far:

Side shot, to show you that my horrible install of the brake light is unnoticable.

in the last pic, you can see where the paint removal methods really did a beating on the wing. Hopefully it can be fixed or all of this would have been a waste.
So far, I have $10.50 invested in this wing install, including the wing (i did some work in exchange for the wing).
Also, don't know what brand this wing is... but, it's a fiberglass shell, with a carbon fibre layover (found that out after cutting it up)

wing was rattle-canned black to see how it'd look. up close, the wing could looks ok...
further away, it looks 100% better.... like an ugly chick with a nice body in a dark club.
I mounted this brake light to the edge of the wing, I think it'd probably fit and look better if it was pushed back a little so a part of the wing acted as a lip for the brake light.
I haven't done any road-tested to see how well the glue holds up... i'm guessing an epoxy of sorts would be the better option, but since this is just a mock up.... I'm not stressing too much.
anyways, some final mock-ups (it rained last night and i need milk
... hence dirty car pics):

Closer. Authentic nurburgring sticker, purchased trackside and after I did my laps (in a E46 M3 though)
