Perhaps the link was provided as a way to tell the OP to get a new engine; i.e. his rings are shot. (if it is in fact oil, and not just from running rich)

Your rings or valve stem seals are shot or both. Mine does the same thing

How long does it take for this much to build up?
How are you driving the car?

how many miles on it? carbon builds up after not washing it for long periods of time if its oil your rings are gone.

That's not happening from just running a little rich...

If it's oil, it's more than likely your rings.
Is your car stock besides the exhaust?

if the cars stock then its most likely your rings and the car has prolly been beatin on pretty good. if it was turbod you might be able to say its running rich with all that carbon. otherwise i would say your rings are shot.

Ok so i'm lookin at a bunch of cash to get this fixed right??? Just need to know so I can figure out what needs to be done. I love my car but I don't have the funds to keep it running if things start to get really really bad.

He said black smoke. Doesn't sound like rings. That would be blueish white smoke.

OP: have a compression test done just in case. If it turns out good, maybe the car is just running rich for some stupid reason. Bad FPR, bad injector, whatever.

Do you have a cat on the car?

I'll buy it from you. Since everyone is convinced it needs a new bottom end from "diagnosing it" online, it must be worth very little money.

Sell it to me for cheap? Trade for a very clean EM1 in perfect running order? Shoot me a PM.

It can hurt to try. I would find out what is wrong with it before trying to run some seafoam through it. For the same reason that you don't take cough syrup for bronchitis. It doesn't nessecarily fix it but it might cause other issues because you're ignoring the real problem.

I'm surprised at how many people are giving this guy DEFINATE answers without even having actually looked at his car.

How often does this stuff build up? 2 weeks? 3 years?

Do you drive the car hard enough to have destroyed the rings?

Have you done a compression test?

None of these questions were asked before?

Your right I did and they are good questions that he didn't answer. It is pretty hard to tell not being there so all you can do is throw out ideas to try and help him.

I'm not trying to get an online diagnostic just some ideas of what it might be. I have a cat on the car, it builds up after about two weeks of driving and I only go into Vtec when necessary. Such as if I need to get on the interstate or switch lanes. This is the only thing wrong with the vehicle other than that it runs great. I do not want to get rid of it since this car was a car that i've wanted for a long time. I've had it for 5 years and love every minute of it. Compression test has not been done but I can get that done if needed.
