OK This might sound like a newbie question but i just want to clear it up.. Everybody tells me to take off my catalytic converter to free up some hp b/c of more air flow. My question is does that affect my car in any way? My car is a daily driver.. What are the Pro's and Con's... Thanks Guys..

 

I don' t know what car you have so it is hard to say how much hp you will gain by removing it..So...

Pros) a couple extra hp

Cons)
Depending on exhaust setup it can make the car louder or raspier
Car will throw a Check Engine Light
Illegal Depending on where you live
Exhaust will smell worse
Pollutes the environment (I know most people don't care...)

In my opinion there is no reason to remove your cat unless you are running a full race setup. If it is really a concern than get a high-flow cat. Random Technologies makes high flow cats for particular models that are direct bolt-ons. That way you still get the HP but none of the cons...

With a turbo application you would notice a significant difference.
I have 2.25 full exhaust and used a 3' Catco cat off ebay for 50$ and like it.

 

ya i have a full 2.5 exhaust with no cat for turbo.
