D Series Transmission Quest. - DX - EX?
i have a mini-me setup of a d15b7 bottom and a d16y8 head. suprisingly i feel the difference after the head swap, and love it, but I know i would feel a greater change if i get a new clutch. right now i have a burn't clutch and what i want to know is whether should i get a d16z6/y8/EX tranny or just put a 6 puck in the d15. i am totaly enjoying this D series ****.
thanks

DO NOT use a 6 puck clutch!!!!!!!
They eat trannys for lunch!
A stock clutch is plenty for a NA SOHC motor.
It will hold 190 crank hp with ease.
I'm now using a USED centerforce dual frictoin unit.

i've heard of an ex with a 1st gen si final drive. that would be twisted.
and oh one thing:
can you name all the parts switched out on your mini-me? everything...
it'd be great if you can break down details on the swap itself. trying to do one for my brother. i'd really appreciate it. thanx.

I can set you up with a SPRUNG 6-puck. All the hold of a 6-puck, but better drivability. Easier on the trans too...

hey bone, you mentioned the ex/si can hold up to 190. do you mean that this is the max power the stock clutch can hold? what should be the most reasonable step up after stock? thanks
Dont' get the 6-puck...even a sprung clutch is still an MAJOR PAIN IN THE ***
it is drivable (I do it) but it chatters and does nothing but **** me off.
If you aren't making the power to need it don't get it.
When I do it again.. I'm gonna get another stock clutch

Hey mister bone, I've got an Apexi turbo kit on my D16z6 and I'm running 6psi. I've seen this equate to 170 whp on two separate articles. My clutch slips like a bitch. It holds once it grabs but it takes time for a redline shift outta first to grab and forget about chirping the tires.
Just thought you'd like to know.
Just thought you'd like to know.
the EX has closer gear ratios so it will accelerate faster than the DX, though having a high rpm in 5th on the highway which equals more fuel comsumption.
later
later
does it equal higher gas consuption?
Go test and tell me.
I say your wrong and mileage will increase 2-3 mpg.
I only did this tranny swap about 4-5 years ago
