Brake Pistons '07 Civic
To replace the pads do the pistons screw in and then pop out when the brake is depressed on do you manually push them back in order to have
room to insert the new pads.
I know on the older 1990's models this is what one had to do.
thx

push the piston in. use channel locks or use the brake piston compressor. i think the screw piston was only ever used on rear brakes, never the fronts.
PD0019 thanks for the reply, now can I use a large C clamp as I've done
on other cars with a piece of plywood or metal over the piston.
Also, do you just push them in for all 4 wheels? And you are correct that the old screw in style was for the rears only.

Hello,
C Clamps are your friend. I always remove the master cylinder fluid cap (the thing you remove to add brake fluid) as that allows air to be pushed out and in the event you topped off the fluid it allows excess fluid to be pushed out.
I take the C clamp and the old inboard brake pad and use them to compress the piston back into its bore.
Do it one at a time and when you are finished, pump the brakes 5-10 times to allow the piston to come back out. If not you will find you can not stop the car
Good luck
