Has Honda solved the 3rd gear pop out/grind on the 09 Civic Si Sedan?
no. i've seen reports of 3rd gear problems on 09's. i wouldn't be too worried about it, the car does come with something like a 5 year/60k mile powertrain warranty.
OP: Go buy one and let us know. jkjk
The problem is less prevalent on the more recent models. If this trend continues, it should be similar to the 08's if not less of a problem.

i dont have the 3rd gear problem on my 06. most of the new 09's are just following the trend with the 3rd gear problem.

I asked a tech at the dealer when I was getting my 07 looked at for the 2nd time
and he said that most of the newer ones have it "less" often than the 07s and 08s, but he had admitted it wasnt unheard of in the 09s BUT it was becoming less of a problem. The tech also said that the amount of 08s that experienced the problem was about half as many of the 06s and 07s combined.
But as with many things, this info should be taken with a grain of salt.

The only '09s that are going to have problems are the ones with driver's who can't drive, and blame it on the 3rd gear problem. It's been fixed.
I've got an 09, and 3rd gear is substantially more "notchy" than any of the others, but I've never had it grind or pop out on me.

mine never grinded and neither did my dads it was weird...it just wouldn't go in gear you had to really force it or let out on the clutch push it back in and then it would go. it was really worse if you were worried about it to.
that's how my 08 is. sometimes i have to give it some extra force to get it to go all the way but it's never grinded or popped out. got about 8.5k on it so far.

I had an 07 and never had a problem at all. I only owned the car for like a year before she was taken from me tho
The 09 has the revised update already done... You guys should also take it easy on hard shifts on a cold trans, let it warm up after a few miles of driving before getting dirty with some hard shifting..
I have held off buying a 09 si sedan because of the 3rd gear pop out/grind. What parts did Honda change with the 09 si?

just picked my 07 up from the stealership and they fixed my 3rd it has a normal feel to it when it is not acting up now. it just felt really notchy even when it was going into gear right. i guess they fixed my steering wheel pop too because it isn't doing that either which i didn't ask them to do and plus my car is lowered so that should of been a voided warranty

I have experienced it occasionally on my post-TSB-cutoff-VIN 08 fg2.
I find it happens only on cold days, before the shifter has warmed up.

When you say cold weather or conditions do you mean snow conditions or 30 degree weather? What is considered too cold conditions for the transmission. I live in California where it does not snow.
Have you tried GM syncromesh?
Some are experiencing notchy 3rd gears. Does that mean it takes a little more effort to shift the shifter in to 3rd gear?
I have a 2002 civc si hatchback and I don't have to warm it up for my transmission to work properly and I don't have 3rd gear grinds or pop out but I need a larger 4 door.
