Icon2 Lowering spring opinions eg...help

I just bought an 93 eg and it came with coilovers, but the shop where they were installed messed them up horribly. The inside of the coilover sleeve is stripped and now they are stuck basically slammed to the ground. My tires rub on sharp turns because the tires are inside the wheel wells and even the smallest bump is a back breaker. It looks sick slammed, but there is no way that I can continue to drive like this because this is my dd. I was looking into another set of coilovers but they seem to be very expensive so I think I'm just going to get some lowering springs. I still want my car to look lower, but I need my tires out of my wheel wells. Any opinions on how much I should lower it? The car also came with 17 inch rims on if that matters. Any input (especially pics for examples) would be greatly appriciated. Thanks alot
