i don't know about how many miles it should have on before it's too late to be "hooked up"...but what gen lude are you looking at? Mine is a 93 and I got it with 103k miles which i think is just about where it should be? good luck though.

how many miles on the engine do u people think is too much where the engine wont last very long after being hooked up?
