My project: 2005 Formula SAE Car Rebuild
I figured I'd make a thread about this to hopefully get me more motivated to finish up this project
. Anyway, a little background: I am an alumni of the oregon state university Formula SAE team. I was on the team for a few years and served as Engine team captain in 2005. I've since graduated and the car from 2005 has been through one competition, and has been used for the past 3 years as a training car. It's also been in a somewhat of a wreck, but was repaired to driving condition.
At the end of last year, the motor and ECU was pulled out of this car and was put into storage. I was fortunate enough to get the chance to buy the car (minus engine and ECU) and probably 95% of the parts by donating money to the team. I jumped on the deal and I'm now going to start to restore the car to driving (and beautiful) condition. This particular car was powered by a 599cc Kawasaki ZX-6R motor, so sourcing a decent engine will be of primary concern.
The first plan for me is to strip the car down to bare frame and strip and re-paint (or powder coat) the frame and all A-arms. This will give me a chance to repair a couple of frame dings still remaining from the crash. OK, so now for the pics.
Here's what I have:
The chassis:

Boxes O Parts :D :

Frame Rear View:

And for reference, here is what the car looked like when it was done and brand new back in 2005 (before sponsor decals were applied):

As I said, my plan is to make this car drive again. I am going to continue to run the car on the OEM :D Haltech engine management system and the 20mm intake restrictor. My reason for this is so that I can easily get the car tech'd for SCA autocross events as an FSAE class vehicle. I know a lot of you are gonna say "oh just run it on carbs or stock EFI and make more power", but honestly it's not a big deal. These cars are fun as **** to drive even with the restrictor. This particular car made almost 80hp on the restrictor.
Well, that's all for now. Thanks for looking.

Good luck with your rebuild! Looks like it's in good shape for a wreck.
It's always refreshing to know that there may be other people on the forums that may actually know what they are talking about.
