any recommendations for good books?
Hey everyone.
I'm a guy like most of you started out, not knowing how to do much more than changing basic **** like a starter or alternator and changing your oil. But I want to learn a lot more. I want to build an h22 properly for Turbo, turbo it, and then drop it into my H23 automatic powered Prelude.
So i'm going to be reading a lot, mostly here, but also some books. Does anyone have any recommendations out there for good books to teach a noob some basics all the way up to some of the not so basics?
**** that you own or have read only please.
Thanks!

It really depends on your level of interest.
If you're going to turbocharge an H22 in the future, I'd definitely recommend Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost". It covers all aspects of turbocharging, but he stays away from the more theoretical side. Overall, it's an easy and informative read.
If you want a good, technical overview of engines, "Advanced Engine Technology" by Heinz Heisler is also good. It's more technical, but it's not too heavy in formulas. A. Graham Bell's "Four-Stroke Performance Tuning" is also very good. He gives a good overview, but he's concise and goes right to the point ("this makes power in this application, and this does not").
All of Carroll Smith's "____ to Win" books are excellent, but they do not talk much about engines. They are more focused on chassis/suspension design, brakes, materials, etc.
All of the above books can be found for $40 or less (new). I think I only paid $15 for Carroll Smith's "Tune to Win" at sae.org.
On the other hand, if you really want to read into the scientific/engineering side of engine development, I'd suggest "The Internal Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice" by Charles Fayette Taylor and "Internal Combustion Engines" by Edward Obert. These are not "Honda Tuning" magazine. They are math-heavy, and I wouldn't recommend these as starter books. However, if you're up for them, they are great references.
