wut are Breather?
This has been widely covered on this board. Most of us have come to the conclusion that these are actually a bad thing for integras. It messes with a system whose name I can't remember. But it isn't that big a deal. But you won't see gains at all, it's pretty much an appearance thing now.

A breather (filter) is something rice boys use on N/A cars to look cool. Installing one on an N/A or otherwise stock (internally) car will mess up your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system (which is part of emissions control). This system uses the hose connected from the valve cover to the intake and helps in the stabalization of your crankcase pressure in conjunction with the PCV valve.
Replacing this hose with the breather filter while the PCV valve is still in place will cripple the PCV system, which your car was designed to use. Disabling this system for no reason will affect performance.
If you have a turbo or S/C, a catch can and breather filter become a necessity as your crankcase pressure becomes so high under load that the PCV valve will break... making it necessary to replace the PCV system with a catch can... and the upper hose from the intake to valve cover with the breather filter.

When I put my AEM in I removed my coolent by pass and had 1 hose going from the valve cover to the intake, when I switched to the ice box I just put the breather on the valve cover, this is bad for the car?Can I just have the 5 16th hose in place of it routing it to the intake?I can't find the old setup the car came with, and the hose I gave to my friend who uses it on his GSR.He's using my old AEM.

i left mine alone. the pipe is still connected... but the only thing is that one of the extensions that used to go to the intake... is just left alone, leaning on my intercooler piping. that should be fine right? or should i put a breather filter at the end of that? i see most guys just take off the pipes, reconnected the coolant line with a hose.. and slap a breather filter on the valve cover.
If you are leaving it off, make sure the opening to the valve cover is filtered (breather) because that is literally the 'intake' for the PCV system... fresh air comes in thru there, so you need to filter it. Don't leave any open hoses... if you don't know what else to do with the open hoses, you can cap them off with a properly sized bolt... it'll look kinda ghetto, but it will seal the system.
