intercooler paint?
so i want to paint my intercooler black but i dont want to drastically decrease the efficiency of it.... i was told radiator paint would work fine but i havnt found any. i hear anodizing is the way to go but im in savannah, ga and no one close does it. will any flat paint work? im open to suggestions. i just dont want to make a 800 dollar mistake with a 2 dollar can of paint.
i believe full-race does anodizing, but i could be wrong.. check there site, i believe i seen it before.. in my opinion i would get it anodized. the flat black look is pretty nice if your some what trying to keep a sleeper status, but you dont want to ruin the intercooler like you said.. you could get the paint stuck in between the fins an stop air flow, i could be wrong, but i would believe that would happen.. but then again light coats.. who knows.. but check out full-race's site .. you could always send it to them
i painted mine with like 3 coats, it was a PWR, never did before testing but IAT's were pretty high!! About 140 on a 60degree day, this was at only 14psi using a t3/t04e 57trim...
Paint strategically... You can go thick on the bars of the core and the endtanks, but try avoiding having thick coats on the fins. You can really clog up the fins on the FMIC core if you go too heavy on the paint and kill the efficiency.
thanks everyone for the advice. i just wanted to ruin a $800 intercooler. this car is already a money pit lol plus im looking for the magic 500whp on pump and i dont want to do anything to interfere with that.

I used some $.96 flat black from Walmart on mine, and it works great. Just do like everyone says, and go with a real light dusting on the fins, it makes no difference to the cooling and your intercooler magically disappears!
