I searched and i found a very good write up on how to teardown a b series transmission, but i cannot find a write up on a D-series my fiance is looking into a 93 civic with a messed up tranny and i want to see if i can find a write up so i can fix it myself.
Here is one, but the pictures are dead:

i can't answer your question but i will tell you that it would be so much cheaper and less of a headache just to buy a new d series tranny. they are uber cheap, ive seen some go for as low as $50.
I'm using a thread based on a B-Series tranny as a guide for my D-Series tranny rebuild. Same thing really. It also helps to have/download a Factory Service Manual. And to the poster(s) above, they are correct. A quicker/cheaper alternative might be to just buy a used one that's in good working order.

It is cheeper to buy used. I think I had over $600 into my rebuild but that included installng a lsd, new syncrose, all the bearings and misc bits and pieces. However unlike yours I have had the car since new didn't have any gear problems. That can get really expensive
