So I was driving yesterday, and i pulled into a gas station to turn around. When i tried to put my car in reverse, i pressed the clutch in and it absolutely would not go into ANY gear. I kept trying and it eventually just..worked. I decided to take my car back home and ended up having to stay in fourth gear the whole time because it was the only random gear i could get it to shift into. When I press the clutch pedal in all the way with the tranny in neutral, it starts to make some wierd grinding sound. We thought maybe it could've maybe had something to do with my throwout bearing being bad, so we took out the tranny, the throwout bearing was bad, and we replaced it, but it still didnt fix the problem. What do you guys think it could be? We tried bleeding the clutch line, no air came out, and there was still pressure. The transmission shifts fine without the car turned on. If you put it in gear and then try to start it up, it just makes that nasty grinding sound again. I'm using the competition stage 4 6 puck with about 3500 miles (DD/racing), with a stock flywheel, stock crank pulley. The motor is a b18c that makes about 190 whp.
Ive seen a car do that exact same thing. Came in for a clutch/hard to get into gear. Upon replacing the clutch I found out that the pressure plate bolts came loose and would not let it disengage the clutch fully. Just one example of some overlooked things.
This wasnt on a honda though.

Good lesson there, we all tend to look at the obvious and sometimes miss other problems that may have lead to a the failure of the obvious.
OP, good luck.
what you are describing sounds like a hydraulic issue, but that would not cause a grinding noise. does this disc have a sprung hub? if it is making a funny noise, it could be the springs coming out of the hub. i would pull it back out and check the clutch really good

i never use locktite on the bolts and i have never had one come loose.
every car i have fixed that was brought here because the flywheel was loose......you would always hear the flywheel way before the clutch stopped "working". it doenst make a very good noise haha.
from my experience, not that its not possible its something else, but every single time i have EVER suspected that there was a problem with the clutch, there has been a problem with the clutch (unless there was fluid puking out of the slave or master cylinder, but it was instantly visibly obvious). of all of the times i have wasted my time adjusting the pedal, bleeding the clutch, swapping parts, etc...... never once have i fixed the problem with out pulling the trans and replacing a component (disk or pressure plate) of the clutch assembly.
you generally waste more time tinkering with that crap than it would take you to pull the trans and find the problem lol

My competition clutch made a weird grinding noise to when i put one in my car. Pulled it back off and the PP fingers were hitting the disk with thae clutch pressed in. Try putting it in gear with the clutch only half way or 3/4 in and see what happens

It absolutely will not go into gear no matter where the clutch pedal is
I'm going to pull the tranny again today after school and take a gander at it. The disc IS sprung, hopefully its not destroyed. If it were the flywheel bolts backing out, then wouldn't that make it difficult when starting it up? When we felt the springs/fingers on the pressure plate they didn't feel weak or wobbly. I guess i'll find out tonight.

make sure you check hte pilot bearing and/or input shaft play. usually the only thing that causes springs to come out is a input shaft that is not solid

Well..i called them earlier and I was told they wouldnt be able to warranty it because it is out of the 90-day window. I purchased it a little over a year ago..like right before i went to Iraq, so my car just sat for a year with it not being used.
They also told me that same ****. I also bought my clutch and let it sit around till my motor was ready. Sucks them telling me that ill definatly never buy a competition clutch again. I have a barely used action 1ms clutch for sale pm me if interested
Keeps making me wonder why I didn't just build a **** box with an ls1 for half the price & twice the reliabilty???
Good luck to you.

Well on top of being 90 days out, i didnt have a proof of purchase/nor do i know which dealership i got it through because it was sort of a group buy when i bought it, and the guy i bought it with passed away last May. Its all good, i mean..they're just trying to protect their product, they really were trying to work with me, the cards just didnt play in my favor. I just bit it and purchased a replacement disk.
