Do you *want* the lopey idle? You won't get that bad of an idle with any VTEC cams, because the high overlap that causes that is never there. High overlap is detrimental to low/mid range power, thus a bad idea to use on the lowcam profile.

If you want the sound, just get an EMS that can engage VTEC at all RPM's. It have poor lowend power & response, waste gas, die on occation - but will sound like a cam'd V8.

Most other cars get that crap idle because they don't have a system like vtec, or they disable their variable valve timing system because it doesn't work well with the different 'big' valvetrain parts.

the skunk pro1's have a very aggressive primarly lobe, which makes them sound WAY more aggressive even when the car is not in vtec.

you wouldnt use the EMS to lock the car in vtec, you would do it mechanically.

apparently you have never heard a set of pro1s yet, they sound mean as hell and take a good amount of finessing to get to idle solid in all conditions, ie: cold start and post warmup conditions, IACV scaling is a must. The cam is flat out aggressive in all areas and makes a ton of power in NA or boosted setups, so far its my cam of choice although i dont own a set. im still rockin some old *** stage 2s

Believe it or not. Cam timing does help with the idleing.

"IACV scaling is a must"

nearly every car i tune with the pro series cams does not have an IACV. (i get lucky like that lol) when i finally got a car that had the pro series cams with an IACV i found it didnt make any difference. with big cams, and/or big injectors it doesnt seem to make much if any of a difference.

and like antilag said, cam timing is huge. the pro series cams NEED to be degree'd!

What do you guys mean by degreeing cams? Are you talking about degreeing them in when installing them? When you tune on a dyno don't you adjust them anyways, so wouldn't that kinda defeat the purpose of degreeing them in the first place? I could see doing it if it was a set it and forget it thing, but don't most tuning session end in adjusting cam timing? Or are you guys saying the best place for the skunk2's is usually where the cam card says they should be thus not having to adjust them on the dyno?

The search function is your friend. There are a couple of very detailed, step-by-step threads on this.

I agree degreeing them is a must or you will have a hard time making them idle well. Honestly I havent had many problems with getting pro1's to idle fairly smooth as long as the cams were degreed. I even have a friend with pro2s I tuned that complained his idle wasn't lopey enough :p The pro2s do sound quite a bit more agressive at idle though.
