Default 92 accord auto tranny problems help plz

my friends 92 accord, tranny started making funny ticking noise, the fluid was a little low so we topped it off with lucas. at first when we put it in any gear the motor would die...did that for a day and now it starts and can put it in gear and the only thing he has is reverse, drive gears do nothing motor just revs, we adjusted the shifter cable and still the same thing, is the tranny out or could it just be the pump? we are going to change it to a manual if the tranny is bad. we are getting tranny, ecu, pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder and lines, shifter and linkage, starter, slave cylinder, is that all we will need?

Your tranny requires Exploratory Surgury at the very least. There is nothing to be done (on the outside) for a condition this severe.
What the ultimate course of action is will be determined by an inventory of internal parts needed. The age of your friends car would most likely produce a suggestion of either a reman or used replacement. Most would forgo the exploratory to save labor expenses.

There's a really good thread in the FAQ section of this sub-forum which will list everything you will need.
