Default DOHC or SOHC

Hey guys I was just wondering what type of engine does a Canadian/American 1990 CRX have? I want to buy one soon and I wondered if there was a certain model or something with DOHC. Single overhead cams I don't want because I'll likely wanna tune the crap out of it. Thanks Ahead of time, I'll be on tomorrow.

single cam....
si-d16a6(mpfi)
dx-d15b2(dpfi)
hf-d15b1(mpfi)
i dunno if they made a std model crx but that would also be the d15b2 if they did
a b-series swap is not difficult in a crx...there is minimal fabrication needed....tools you need for "custom fabrication" are a grinder/cutoff tool, and a BFH (big fuggin hammer)

also...seing as you don't know what engine comes in a crx, i would suggest you do A LOT of research before you take anything apart....or even decide what you want to do...the single cams CAN make power as long as it's done right.

You can still tune the SOHC. Plenty of guys have made big numbers on boosted SOHC's.

No North American '88-91 Civic or CRX came with a DOHC engine from the factory.

The HF engine is a D15B6. The D15B1 is the Civic STD engine.

I'd stay SOHC. You have an extremely light chassis to start with.

So with a modded SOHC it'll definately move.

stick with the "SOHC" and throw z6 or y8 head because there are alot of performance parts to offer and almost just as much power as a b-series!

For sure i got a Z6 in my crx and ive ran non-vtec B18 and a few B16, and my Z6 just has basics, cold air intake, RS*R cat back system and the timing has been advanced.

OP, are you Canadian?

If you are, there is always the option of buying a RHD Japanese CRX SiR (as long as it's over 15 years old). They came from the factory with B16A's as stock. They're a bit more expensive, at least more expensive than buying a CRX and swapping a B16A in yourself.

You can also get the 5th gen civics too, but most of the Honda's i've seen are overpriced. The whole JDM RHD fad and whatnot.

yeah no kidding. A JDM B16 CRX SiR is like $7k-8k. Effing rediculous for what the car is. But they are usually cleaner too ie no Canadian rust lol

Alright I guess. Thanks guys. SOHC four banger it can. The chassis is light so I guess I don't need snot loads of power, lol/ Although.. what does mpfi & dpfi mean? z6 cylinder heads? oi I've got some learnin'!! I know that HF is High Fuel Efficiency but I'm not clear what DX and SI stand for. I'm canadian and as for the car measurements and mild styling differences I'm pretty sure I'd want a 1990 CRX.

Oh jeez though, maybe I can deal with it SOHC but auto? you guys would say I could find a Manual CRX? Right?!

I'm still really curious what the engine type would be for that though...aye I'm a nOOb... dx-d15b2(dpfi) A CRX DX? A CRX Si? I've never seen the suffix on the car before so I dunno.

where in particular would you get an imported RHD Japanese CRX SiR?? That would be tight, so friggin' tight. I would totally save my pence if I knew I could still get one in a cupla years...

Ugh.. B series is still a great option for ef's. Lots of potential and parts available.

I don't think this guy is at that level yet. I suggest he sticks with the d for now until he has a little more knowledge of his options.

First, living in Canada helps, because they have the 15 year import rule (basically, ANY car over 15 years of age can be made street legal in Canada. You just have to check with registries to find out what needs to be fixed to be compliant).

Not sure where you are, but in Calgary, there are probably 15 different import companies. They are all called JDM *something* lol. Canada is a VERY easy place to find Japanese cars older than 15 years. R32 Skylines are a dime a dozen up here.
