So my check engine light came on and the wife said the car was jerking when she left off the gas in gear and my tech replaced the alternator and load sensor?? I just drove it today and when you let off the throttle in gear it bucks and jerks.....never really did this before. Thoughts?

if it does it in 1st gear, or even 2nd then that is completely normal for a stick shift.

 

Yeah I was about to say that. Mine does that too. That mechanic just wanted to get some money out of you. It helps if you slip the clutch a tad at low speeds.

 

Stick and not that I really drive it much I never noticed it before. It definitely just started doing it. As for the alt. the check engine light came on and he said it was overcharging.

 

Sounds like the IACV is sticking.

 

Without knowing the error codes stored in the check engine light for the CEL, we're just pissing into the wind.

These cars are notorious for alternator undercharging problems, but they don't throw check engine lights. A failing alternator will usually trip the charging light.

P1298 is a common code for '01-02 Civics; the electrical load detectors in those years commonly go bad. This is not a fault of the alternator.

What error codes are stored in the computer?

 

He checked and cleared the codes but didn't say what they were.
