Default Newbie, What's up guys, some simple questions also.

What's up guys, first time poster, first time honda/acura owner as well, My two previous vehicles were both DSM's

1st was a 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD, (first car, that I had no idea what I had until I wrecked it)

2nd was 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS-Turboed (Made a backyard turbo kit for it)

and I just bought my 96 GSR about 3 weeks ago w/ 63k and have been dying to ask some questions but this Forum has not been accepting new registrations, and SUPERHONDA pretty much sucks, not helpful at all, hope this is different

So let's begin shall we? BTW, I did use the search function first.

1. When exactly is the timing belt/waterpump/tensioner suppose to be done on this car? I dont 'have the owner's manual but some local rice heads told me that on all Hondas/Acuras they don't have to replaced until 90k. On my dsm's that was mandatory at 60k.

2. Would springs off my 3rd gen integ fit a 2nd gen integ? I took the Progress Tech springs that came on the car and some local wants them for his 90 integra?

3. Got the car on a lift couple of days ago, saw alot was wrong with the car. Bent oil pan, snapped tie rods, among other things, had them fixed, BUT I noticed that he replaced the stock cat with a high flo (or something like that) and just snipped the wires from O2 sensor that was there and just left it hanging. Is this affecting me in any way? The car idles fine and the only thing I can think of is that I tend to backfire a little when I'm in VTEC.

4. I miss boost, BAD!, I orignally was looking for an LS model to turbocharge but couldn't find one for a decent price, so I opted for the GSR. I've heard horror stories about the VTEC and boost not coinciding, anybody want to let me know why this isn't a good mixture. I've done some slight research on the kits already out. Still very pricey, I'm maybe looking into doing a backyard kit again.

O well that's it, thanks alot guys

Mick

whats up, i dont know much so im not going to answer anything that im not positive about. the timing belt should be changed at 90k according to honda/acura, but if you intend to beat on the car or do any kind of forced induction, you should change it earlier (as early as 60k) but if your just doing simple i/h/c/e dont worry about it. about the turbo, i am plannin on building a custom turbo on my 95 gsr early next year. heres an excelent site on building a custom one on a teg. http://www.cse.uconn.edu/~yelevich/turbo/turbo.html just to let you know, the people on these forums are smart as hell, they mostly know what they are talking about (more then any other board) so you found the right place. good luck.

welcome

1. Honda recommends changing t-belt and water pump at around 90k, but you should do it around 70-80k depending on conditions.

2. sorry, i don't know

3. you might get a check engine light. you could also be running a little rich. backfiring can also blow out your cat. which o2 sensor is snipped? it wouldn't hurt to replace it.

4. What kind of horror stories are you talking about?

1) Welcome to Honda-Tech... the best place for Honda-Acura info around .... and great kill stories...

2) Vtec + boost horror stories are mostly BS, prolly founded by people who boosted the GSR motor at 10:1 CR and blew it up. 10:1 CR is not boost friendly.... the vrec is not the problem... vtec+boost be good friends !

3) The 2ndary O2 will throw a check engine light on an OBD2 car, but should not affect performance. I have heard that wrapping it (O2) in foil will allow you to connect it to the ECU w/o a CEL, but I don't know if that works.

The best place for turbo/S/C questions is the Forced Induction forum... there is some real talent present.
